'Human Resources' is a dynamic, expressive painting by Jared Aufrichtig and Ryan Shava that embodies all of the elements that go into being human: male, female, ego, id, inside, outside, and everything in between. An abundance of feelings and emotions, like the parallels of nature and the minerals stored inside the land. These words are inscribed in the artists’ own hand on the verso, which also carries both signatures and the dates 2021-2024.

The artwork is a sanctuary of presence, where the heart and mind take precedence over the programmed feed. Inscribed on the verso by the artists: "Life is more than the digital window…"

Jared Aufrichtig is a South African artist, born in Long Beach, California, who lives and works in Cape Town. His practice moves between painting, printmaking, film photography and street art, with a process-led approach in which each work grows out of an experience and carries its own story. Text, collage and a pop vocabulary meet a free, almost calligraphic line and an expressionist sense of colour. Engagement runs through his work, from the question of water as a resource to the many faces a single person can wear, as in the painting Samurai Farai Three Wisemen (2021) and the Mirror Man series. Coming from graffiti and murals, he has extended his work to prints and digital editions. His work has been the subject of a text by the critic Ashraf Jamal in the South African Art Times.
