Jared Aufrichtig

Jared Aufrichtig is a South African artist, born in Long Beach, California, who lives and works in Cape Town. His practice moves between painting, printmaking, film photography and street art, with a process-based approach in which each work grows out of an experience and carries its own story. Text, collage and a pop vocabulary meet loose, calligraphic mark-making and an expressionist sense of colour. Activism runs through the work, from the question of water as a resource to the many faces a single person carries, as in the painting Samurai Farai Three Wisemen (2021) and the Mirror Man series. With a background in graffiti and murals, he has also extended his work to prints and digital editions. His work was the subject of a feature by the critic Ashraf Jamal in the South African Art Times.
